WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN US AT GSU?
- Mentorship and professional socialization. Our faculty members are active scholars and researchers who frequently coauthor with students on papers and participate in numerous events and colloquia.
- Strong placement record. New Ph.D.s routinely are placed in tenure-track positions or in high-level analyst positions, while our M.A. graduates go on to work at places like the Georgia Legislature and the Carter Center.
- Diversity. Our 29 full-time faculty members cover every region of the globe and every subfield in political science.

GSU is within blocks of the Georgia Legislature, every level of state and federal courts in addition to the U.S. Supreme Court, numerous state and federal agencies, and the headquarters of international organizations including CARE, Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center.
Our nationally-ranked Ph.D. program accepts applicants with either bachelor’s or master’s degrees. Students can concentrate their studies on the major subfields in the disciplines of: American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Politics, Political Theory, Public Law and Research Methods.
A terminal M.A. degree with a concentration in all major subfields also is offered. Our M.A. program includes many flexible courses after hours and online designed for working professionals.
Students can also take advantage of the many opportunities offered in Atlanta by completing an Experiential Learning Project. Recent project placements have been with the Georgia Legislature, Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, the Secret Service and the World Affairs Council.
Finally we offer a fully online M.A. degree for Social Studies K-12 educators.
