GRADUATE PROGRAMS
Political Science’s Ph.D. program is ranked #72 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
Graduate Study
With scholars active in all areas of the discipline, our students have the opportunity to conduct research under the guidance of faculty who share their interests. We have a nationally ranked Ph.D. program as well as a terminal M.A. Our Ph.D. students have landed both academic jobs as well as employment outside of academia. Our M.A. program provides substantial flexibility with students able to pick the track that most closely matches their goals.
Ph.D. in Political Science
Our nationally-ranked Ph.D. program accepts applicants with either bachelor’s or master’s degrees. Students can concentrate their studies on the major subfields in the disciplines of American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Politics, Political Theory, Public Law and Research Methods.
M.A. in Political Science
The degree offers a choice of four concentrations: General Political Science, American Politics, International and Comparative Politics or Public Law.
Our M.A. program is geared towards students who want a deep foundation in the current scholarship of political science. It can be taken as a terminal degree for someone seeking a career in government, politics, law, or a related field, or it can be taken as the first step to a doctorate.
M.A. in Professional Politics
The M.A. concentration in Professional Politics provides advanced training in American, Comparative, and International Politics, as well as opportunities to build skills in cutting-edge quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
This program provides the professional skills needed by those pursuing career paths in public service and politics. It can be completed fully online, fully in-person, or with a mix of the two.
M.A. in Political Science for K-12 Educators
The M.A. concentration in Political Science for Educators is geared towards current teachers who want to advance in their profession rather than pursue a doctorate. It may also be of interest to students contemplating a career in teaching or to current or former teachers seeking the qualifications to adjunct at the university level.
The program can be completed fully online, fully in-person, or with a mix of the two. Teachers in the program can schedule the majority of the courses in the summer to better fit their own work schedule.
M.I.S. Philosophy, Politics and Economics
The Master of Interdisciplinary Studies program in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) prepares students for a range of careers in government, public service, entrepreneurship and the corporate world.
Georgia State's program helps students become familiar with, and capable of contributing to, ongoing debates about the nature of good political and economic institutions, as well as the policies and practices best suited for creating and sustaining them.
