Why Study Political Science in Atlanta?
Atlanta is the seat of state government and a hub for international business, foreign diplomatic missions, media, creative industries and government agencies from global to local levels. The city is also home to the headquarters of international organizations including CARE, Habitat for Humanity and the Carter Center.
Georgia State's Political Science Department has relationships with many Atlanta-based businesses, the state legislature and government agencies at federal, state and local levels. Our department also has relationships with non-profits focusing on issues ranging from improving our justice system to conserving the planet.
We can connect you with the optimum opportunity to expand your world and explore career paths while pursuing your degree.
Interested in International Affairs?
Our partnership with the World Affairs Council draws global leaders in politics and business, as well as ambassadors, activists and U.S. policymakers. Our students and faculty work with the Carter Center, just a few miles away, to promote improved governance and peace around the world.
Thinking About a Profession in Law?
Our pre-law club, mock trial team and nationally recognized judicial politics faculty will get you on your way. Or work with a municipal government through the Georgia Municipal Association or with county commissioners through the Association of County Commissioners in Georgia.

Model U.N. & Arab League Teams
The Model U.N. and the Model Arab League programs offer learning experiences where the practical skills learned in class are applied outside the classroom at regional, national and international levels. Teams compete nationally and internationally each year. In recent years the teams have traveled to competitions in New York, Washington, D.C, Boston, Japan, Morocco, Bosnia, South Korea, France, Egypt and Turkey.
Mock Trial Team
Mock Trial is open to all Georgia State University students from all departments. The group is strengthened by students’ diverse majors, backgrounds, career goals, talents and interests. What brings the group together is the love of competing in mock trial tournaments against other colleges all over the country.
