Aries Arugay, Georgia State Ph.D. in Political Science 2014, was awarded the Outstanding Young Scientist Award of the National Academy of Science and Technology of the Philippines. It is the first time in two decades that a political scientist is being recognized for this award.
Dr. Arugay is currently a professor at the Department of Political Science, University of the Philippines-Diliman. He is also the Senior Editor of Asian Politics & Policy and Associate Editor of the Philippine Political Science Journal. His current research projects are on political polarization, regional civil society, performative populism, and regime instability in democratic regimes. His dissertation, under the supervision of Dr. Jennifer McCoy, tackled the causal conditions and mechanisms behind “Civil Society Coups” after the third wave of democratization.
