Political Science Alumnus Receives Prestigious Fellowship, Joins Harvard

Hainer Sibrian, a Political Science alumnus and a winner of the Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship, spoke at the convocation of the Honors College 2022 class. Sibrian is attending Harvard University’s Kennedy School to pursue his master’s in public policy as part of his already promising academic and career journey with an eye at his goal of being a US Foreign Service Officer.

During the ceremony Sibrian shared highlights of his professional endeavor he has been embarked on since graduating in 2013. As part of his work with the US Department of State, he managed over 27 million dollars in federal awards for the promotion of inclusive governance, economic empowerment, and education in the Middle East and North Africa. Prior to that he was able to win the National Security Education Program-David L. Boren Scholarship to study Arabic in Egypt and witness the political changes first hand.

Sibrian is planning on rejoining the US State Department upon finishing his master’s degree with a passion to understand and improve the mechanisms that hold US foreign policy accountable to communities at home and abroad.
