GSU’s Mock Trial Team Prevails, Might Go National!
This weekend, one of GSU’s two undergraduate Mock Trial teams went 8-0 at the southeastern Regional Tournament in Columbia, SC, finishing in second place (behind Duke University) out of 24 teams and advancing to the Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) in Greenville, SC in March. If they place in the top six at ORCS, they will become the first GSU undergraduate mock trial team in history to advance to the National Championship Tournament, which this year will take place April 20-22 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In addition to this significant team accomplishment, individual GSU team members earned three outstanding attorney awards and one outstanding witness award. Claudia Cornelison won two of those outstanding attorney awards, one each for her performances as defense attorney and prosecuting attorney. Cornelison was the highest rated prosecuting attorney at the competition; her 20-point scorecard was an astounding three points higher than the next closest prosecuting attorneys. And Antonia Morris and Aaliyah McGill earned honors for, respectively, outstanding defense attorney and outstanding witness.
